Chris Fukushima - chef/sushi-master/owner

Born Masayasu Fukushima in Nara, Japan Chris became interested in the culinary world at a very young age learning a lot from his mother Hinako. After Graduating from the Tsuji Cooking School Academy in Osaka, Japan in 1971, he has spent the last 4 decades in the restaurant industry. He settled in Monterey 28 years ago and was the chef at Ginza Restaurant on the Monterey Wharf until he opened Ocean Sushi Deli in Pacific Grove. Pioneering Take-Out sushi, Ocean Sushi has been available in your local markets such as Grove Market, Bruno's Market, Cornucopia & Nielsen's Brother's Market for several years. Chris has a few marathons under his belt, used to compete in tennis tournaments in the Northern California region, a casual golfer and for the last 7 or so years has been an avid dancer and a passionate local ballroom dance instructor. Toshimi Fukushima - cook/sushi extraordinaire/nutirionist/owner

Toshimi was born in Nara, Japan and studied Nutrition at Tetsukayama College in Nara. She currently studies Tea Ceremony and recently received a "cha-mei" or Tea Name: :Sobin" from the Head of Urasenke School of Tea from Kyoto, Japan which is regarded as a very high honor. Toshimi enjoys playing tennis with her tennis crew once every blue moon, loves red wine, enjoys gardening and recently kicked all her daughter's behinds during a hike in Garrapata State Park in Big Sur. Last year she harvested purple speckled "mame" or beans which she was very proud of and used them to make "manju" (a very traditional sweet Japanese treat) in a shape of a Chrysanthemum flower for her Tea Ceremony friends. Her passion is cooking healthy food and feeding people. Toshimi is serving, cooking and making sushi at the Monterey location. She loves to introduce new items on the menu that are especially good for your health, like Hijiki (dried seaweed cooked in broth with carrots and konyaku - yam cake).
